Practical Philosophy

Led by Martin van Hees, the practical philosophy group at the VU comprises members from a broad range of departments who work on similar topics in moral and political philosophy. Within moral philosophy, members of the group are especially interested in theories of moral responsibility (Robichaud, Van Hees), bioethical issues in clinical and applied psychology (Meynen), and Kantian ethics (Van Hees, Robichaud).

Within political philosophy members current research includes theories of political legitimacy (Vanderveen, Van Ooijen), exploitation, (Ferguson), freedom and rights (Van Hees) and power (Uzunova) as well as the ethics of nudging (Robichaud), and the foundations of rational choice theory (Jitendranath, Van Hees).
