There are plenty of things do to besides your study to get the full student experience. You can join your study association or enjoy the many cultural, sportive, or social activities that the VU offers.
Study associations of the Humanities
So why would you join a study association? First and foremost, it’s the best choice to enrichen your time as a student. In an association you will combine activities regarding your discipline with conviviality. You’ll get to know your fellow students intensively, and be part of the community, while always being able to meet people at their social rooms. You can also participate in many events like parties, excursions, and guest lecturers. There are also many practical benefits to being a member, like discounts on all your study books.
The Faculty of Humanities has five study associations:
Icarus is the association for all philosophy students at the VU.
Kliché is the association for the studies of Communication and Information Studies (CIW), Literature and Society (L&S), and Media, Art, Design and Architecture (MADA).
Merlijn is the association for all history students at the VU.
Synkratos is the association for the studies of Archeology, Ancient Studies, and Greek- and Latin Language and culture.
- Humanities Student Society
Humanities Student Society (HSS) is a study association for all students of the Faculty, regardless of nationality, background, or pre-education.
Cultural, sportive and social activities
The associations of the humanities are located very close to each other at the campus. This means that you’ll meet many students from the other disciplines during your study.
Griffioen Cultural Hub
The VU has its own cultural centrum called the Griffioen Cultural Hub. Here, you can visit exciting new theater plays or attend one of their various creative courses.
VU sports centre
There is also plenty of opportunity to exercise and practice sports at the VU. You can practice all sorts of sports, like Bodyshape or Zumba, with a student discount at the Sportcentrum VU.
